More and more riders are using the convenient XtraMile service for short, on-demand rides.
The primary goal of the XtraMile service, now available through the RVT Go! app, is to serve riders who are not on regular bus routes, and to help them make connections to those regular stops.
We have found that many people are using XtraMile even when they live along a bus route, which limits our ability to help those who live or work where no public transportation exists.
Starting Monday Sept. 14, we will be making a change in the app to limit when we offer XtraMile trips versus bus trips in those areas on a regular bus route. What does that mean?
Currently, if a rider enters an XtraMile trip that is along a bus route, the app offers the bus routes as an option but still allows an XtraMile booking. Starting Sept. 14, we will no longer have XtraMile as an option if the trip start and end points are right near a bus stop and match the time requested. It is important to note that we’ll only suggest the bus if a bus route will get you to the same place in the same timeframe as requested.
The base bus fare is the same as XtraMile, $1.75, but we also offer discounted fares on the regular bus routes for seniors and people with disabilities.
Choosing the bus over XtraMile means rides are more available for trips that aren’t accessible by bus.
