As of May 1st, River Valley Transit (RVT) is administering the south central regional mobility management program, known as Know How To Go SCCT. The program will continue to serve all 32 towns of south central Connecticut.
What is Mobility Management?
Mobility management is a coordinated approach to delivering transportation services that focuses on meeting customer needs, coordinating services and providers, and improving efficiency. It aims to connect people with the most appropriate transportation options by leveraging various transportation providers and services, including public transit, human services, and private operators.
What is a Regional Mobility Manager?
Regional Mobility Managers help improve mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to transportation service and expanding transportation mobility options. This is done by offering education and outreach, informational and referral services through phone calls and presentations, identifying gaps and gathering information on transportation options. Managers also assist with any transportation application process needed.
The greater New Haven region began the mobility management program over ten years ago. Since that time, it has become an important resource for our towns and residents. Know How To Go SCCT’s Laurie McElwee is in her 11th year of working as a mobility manager and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to the position. With her background combined with the new experience and resources RVT brings to the program should result in a reinvigorated Know How To Go SCCT!
Work has already begun on several initiatives. The logo has been refreshed, a webpage with town specific information is under development, an email newsletter has been launched, a Facebook account has been established and printed directories are in the works.
