Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I install the app?

    You can install the app on your smartphone or tablet.

    Get the app:

    Then, follow the instructions for setting up an account. Once your account is setup you can schedule your ride through the app. The app will show you the estimated time of arrival and where the shuttle bus is on a map and more! Typically, you can get a ride within 20 minutes.

  • What if I don’t have smartphone?

    No problem. Just call us to schedule your ride or you can book your ride online from a computer.

  • Where does XtraMile stop?

    XtraMile offers a mix of curb-to-curb and designated stops.  XtraMile does not pull into driveways. In most areas, we will stop at the curb of your requested stop location.  In some areas, we have designated stops to avoid confusion or for safety.  On dead-end roads, we may require you to meet us at the nearest area we can safely access.  When you book your trip, you will get directed to the nearest stop, if necessary.

  • How do I schedule a ride?

    There are three ways to schedule a ride:

  • Can I book a ride for a certain time?

    Yes! Just select the time you need through the app or let us know your appointment time when scheduling.  Be sure you are ready to go at the scheduled time, as the bus will only wait up to 2 minutes for you to board.

  • Can I book a ride in advance? 

    Yes. The app allows booking up to one day in advance.  Be sure you are ready to go at the scheduled time, as the bus will only wait up to 2 minutes for you to board.

  • Who can ride?

    Everyone!  As long as your trip starts and ends in an XtraMile service area, you can ride.

  • Where does XtraMile operate?

    There are four service areas. Anyone can get a ride with each of the four service areas. You can get more information about each service area by clicking on the links, below:

  • Can people with a disability or a special mobility need get a ride?

    Yes. Our shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and drivers are trained at helping people with disabilities.

  • Who operates XtraMile?

    XtraMile is operated by River Valley Transit and is made possible through funding from the the Federal Transportation Administration, the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation, and local funding sources.
